Homemade Hardwood Flake Soil - Incredible for Inverts - Nitrogen Rich

Flake soil is a highly popular biodegradable soil borne from fermenting sawdust/woodchip/rotting logs until a uniform high nutrient soil has formed. This process can take up to 12 weeks to fully complete.

It is used heavily in beetle enclosures and is said to be especially beneficial for beetle larvae, encouraging much faster growth and larger adults.

The fermenting process exposes cellulose in the wood and floods the substrate with nitrogen rich biocompounds which are very, very beneficial to a lot of arthropods, in particular millipedes and isopods!

Our flake soil is packed full of nutrients and has a soft, coco-coir consistency. We prefer to have some texture to our flake soil which is why there may be some visible wood flakes, but these will break down with more time. We use this flake soil as a component for a variety of our substrates as we believe in using only the best ingredients!
