Homemade Hardwood Flake Soil - Incredible for Inverts - Nitrogen Rich

Unlock elite growth and breeding success with our premium Homemade Hardwood Flake Soil. Produced using a highly specialized, small-batch fermentation process, this nutrient-dense living substrate serves as the absolute gold standard of nutrition for detritivorous invertebrates.

Unlike basic raw sawdusts or simple forest composts that offer some nutritional value, true flake soil undergoes a complete biochemical transformation. The fermenting process exposes cellulose in the wood and floods the substrate with nitrogen rich biocompounds. Often referred to as "brown gold", the resulting substrate is packed with predigested cellulose and complex organic sugars, it is an essential premium food and bedding medium for prize beetle larvae, high-end isopods, and millipedes.

It is used heavily in beetle enclosures and is said to be especially beneficial for beetle larvae, encouraging much faster growth and larger adults.

Our flake soil is packed full of nutrients and has a soft, coco-coir consistency. We prefer to have some texture to our flake soil which is why there may be some visible wood flakes, but these will break down with more time.

    • Nutrient-Dense Fermented Substrate: Supercharged with highly bioavailable cellulose and organic nitrogen-based compounds that dramatically increase larval weight in beetles and boost reproduction rates in rare isopods.

    • The Ultimate Standalone Diet: Functions simultaneously as both a premium structural bedding and a primary, continuous food source for detritivorous species.

    • Flawless Water Retention: The broken-down wood fibers absorb and hold uniform moisture exceptionally well, expanding slightly to maintain an airy, humid environment deep down.

    • 100% Home-Cured Quality: Hand-turned and fully aged right here in the UK—ensuring zero residual heat or ammonia gas remains before packaging.
