Homemade Hardwood Flake Soil - Incredible for Inverts - Nitrogen Rich
- Flake soil is a highly popular biodegradable soil borne from fermenting sawdust/woodchip/rotting logs until a uniform high nutrient soil has formed. This process can take up to 12 weeks to fully complete.
- It is used heavily in beetle enclosures and is said to be especially beneficial for beetle larvae, encouraging much faster growth and larger adults.
- The fermenting process exposes cellulose in the wood and floods the substrate with nitrogen rich biocompounds which are very, very beneficial to a lot of arthropods, in particular millipedes and isopods!
Our flake soil is packed full of nutrients and has a soft, coco-coir consistency. We prefer to have some texture to our flake soil which is why there may be some visible wood flakes, but these will break down with more time.
