Green Banana Cockroach - Panchlora Nivea – Inverted World

Panchlora Nivea – Green Banana Cockroach

Origin: Cuba, Caribbean and along the Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas.

Status – Captive Bred

Green Banana Cockroaches start off as brown nymphs and then turn bright green on their final moult. Adult size is approximately 2 cm (females grow larger than the males).

They are very easy to keep and breed but like quite high temperatures and more humidity than most cockroach species. These cockroaches are both pretty and make excellent food for other bugs, spiders and reptiles so are worth the effort.

Housing: An arboreal enclosure or a deep tub with lid is necessary for these cockroaches. We keep ours in a 42 litre tub with drilled holes for ventilation. Plenty of horizontal and vertical hides are necessary, we use cork bark, but you can use fake/live plants or even cardboard egg trays. The adult cockroaches are strong flyers and are fast, so we recommend using a net under the lid of the tub to prevent escapees.

Substrate: Peat, coir or vermiculite and leaf litter, between 30mm and 40mm deep as this species of cockroach do like to burrow at all stages of their life.

Environment: 27-32°C daytime with a temperature drop to around 19-20°C overnight. These cockroaches like a higher humidity, we keep ours at 80%.

Feeding: They will feed on fruit, vegetables & cereals like other cockroaches, but especially like banana! Feed once or twice a week and spot clean any uneaten food.

Additional notes: Change the substrate once every 4 to 6 months and consider adding a clean-up crew like springtails and isopods to help maintain the substrate and keep the tank clean and healthy.
