Peleng Turquoise Stick Insect (Myronides glaucus "Peleng") - Butterfly Plants
A beautiful fast growing, easy to keep stick insect from Peleng island in Indonesia. Females mature into a range of colors from a deep sapphire blue to a gorgeous shade of turquoise through to green, the males turn a lovely tan brown. The young nymphs start green with mottled legs, slowly developing their adult colors as they grow.
Care requirements:
Temperature: 18-26 degrees (I tend to let the temperatures drop slightly over night)
Humidity: 70%-90%
Food: Brambles, Rose and Ferns
Size: 10cm (body size) 15cm (including legs)
Lifespan: 14 months for females, 9 months for males
Breeding: Although not parthenogenetic, once mated the females will lay hundreds of small eggs which tend to hatch in about 4-5 months if kept warm and humid. I would recommend freezing some so you don't get overwhelmed.
How I keep them: I use a bio-actively set up 45cm x 45cm x 60cm tall glass enclosure with a heat mat placed on the side. I cover most of the roof ventilation to provide higher humidity and mist them once a day.
