This is a lovely small flower beetle from the rain forests of Cameroon. They have a brilliant green sheen to them which can appear red or orange on certain angles. This is a day time active species which make them perfect for a display terrarium. I personally keep them in a mixed tank with other flower beetles, millipedes and cockroaches.
Care requirements:
- Temperature: 18-26 degrees
- Humidity: 60%-85%
- Food: Adult beetles feed mainly on fruit, banana being one of their favourites. Larvae feed solely on rotting leaf-litter from broad leaf trees.
- Adult Size: 2cm Lifespan: 4 months as adults. Larvae take 6-9 months growing until they emerge as adult beetles.
- Breeding: These beetles will readily lay eggs assuming they are provided with a deep enough layer of rotting leaf-litter (minimum 15cm) which is kept moist, not too wet. Each female tends to lay up-to 100 eggs in her life. The eggs take about 3 weeks to hatch into larvae which then start eating the leaf-litter, the warmer you keep them the faster they grow. I tend to remove the larvae from the enclosure every couple months because as they grow they eat a lot, and I find it easier to raise them in separate containers which you can look through every month or so and feed as necessary.
