SKU: LSIAE
Limicolaria aethiops are a small species of snail in the family Achatinidae. They originate from Africa but due to their prolific nature they have spread to other warm climates. The adult snails have slender cone shaped shells with streaks of colour, this group has a beautiful pink-dark purple gradient. Their bodies are very pale with a slight orange hue and a dark dorsal line. These snails are available in groups of three as they are a more social species and do not thrive as well when housed alone. They are currently 5 months old and measuring 3.7-4.5cm in shell length, their parents are unrelated and this is the first generation of their bloodline to be born into captivity.

Care:
- Temperature: 23-27 degrees celsius
-Humidity: 80%
-Adult size: 5-7cm
-Lifespan: 2-3 years
-Housing: Ideally a tall vivarium with a small amount of side ventilation. There should be good airflow, while still retaining humidity. This species is somewhat arboreal and enjoys climbing opportunities, however ensure that there are no hard objects that they could fall onto as they are notoriously clumsy.
-Suitable for beginners: A very hardy species which is relatively easy to keep happy, they are a good choice for a beginner snail keeper. Note that this species is very prolific, laying frequent small clutches of yellow eggs in the substrate, these should be crushed or frozen to prevent inbreeding and overpopulation. I advise digging through the substrate weekly to check for eggs and to aerate the soil.
-Diet: Soft fruits and vegetables are ideal; aubergine, courgette, cucumber, mushroom, bell peppers, banana, kale and lettuce. Variety is key to prevent malnutrition. Fresh herbs such as coriander and basil are very popular and nutritious. They also greatly benefit from leaf litter and hardwood branches coated in algae and lichen.
-Protein: I advise offering a protein meal twice per month, single ingredient options are safest; rehydrated dried mealworms/river shrimp, rehydrated dried nettle leaf, sprouted chia seeds, raw or boiled egg, defrosted frozen blood worms etc.
-Calcium: Ensure cuttlefish bones are always available, never add calcium directly to food as snails need to be able to regulate their intake.
