Vietnamese Giant Stick Insect - Phryganistria heusii - Butterfly Plants

The second longest insect in the world! With female Vietnamese giant stick insects reaching upwards of 50cm long!

These gentle giants are actually very easy to look after in captivity, providing you can give them enough space. Coming from north eastern Vietnam these stick insects will live very happily in normal house temperatures and I've found them not to be particularly fussy with humidity requirements either.

For sale either as medium sized sexed pairs with nymphs measuring between 10-20cm. Sub adult females measuring 25-35cm or un-sexed young nymphs measuring 7-15cm.

PS. the larger ones in the photos aren't even full size yet, they require another 2 molts until they reach maturity!

Care requirements:
Temperature: 16-26 degrees
Humidity: 55%-90%
Food: Brambles, Rose and Oak
Size: 50-54cm (females) 30-35cm (males)
Lifespan: 14-18 months (females tend to live longer)
Enclosure: I would recommend an enclosure 80cm tall by 50cm wide as a minimum for an adult pair. I use a 90x45x90cm exo-terra but I imagine they would be just as happy in a mesh enclosure provided you can mist them every day.
Breeding: Although not parthenogenetic, once mated the females will lay hundreds of disk shaped eggs which tend to hatch in about 5-8 months if kept warm and humid. I would recommend freezing some so you don't get overwhelmed.
