🔍 At A Glance: Porcellio Sevilla Isopod Husbandry Summary
Scientific Name: Porcellio sp. 'Sevilla'
Common Names: Sevilla 'Wild' Isopods | Sevilla Miniskirt Isopods | Spanish Giant Isopods
Adult Size & Lifespan: Massive 2–3cm+ titans | Adults live for approximately 2 years
Breeding & Growth Rate: Prolific and fast breeders once fully acclimated and settled into their environment.
Ideal Climate: Temperature: 18–23°C (Kept at 21–23°C The EntoScapes Way for best results) | Humidity: 50–70% (Maintained drier at 50–60% The EntoScapes Way). Highly sensitive to stale air and requires exceptional cross-ventilation.
Physical Identification & Behaviour: Bold, surface-active, and highly inquisitive giants with a matte slate-grey, stone-mimicry exoskeleton. Features a distinctive white border around the body segments (hence the "Sevilla Miniskirt" moniker) and exceptionally long, prominent male uropods (tails).
Place of Origin: Native to the arid, rocky scrublands of the Seville province, Southern Spain.
Enclosure Sizing Guide: Because of their substantial size and high activity levels, they demand more space than smaller species. A starter group of 10–15 individuals needs a minimum 20x15x15cm setup, while expanding master breeding colonies scale up into a spacious 40x20x20cm enclosure.
Dietary Base: Heavy detritivores reliant on a deep 5–10cm layer of high-quality substrate (strictly no coco coir! We recommend EntoScapes Premium Millipede Edible Substrate), packed with a thick 3cm layer of hardwood leaf litter (oak, beech, hazel) and rotten hardwood.
Supplemental Nutrition: Fresh vegetables once a week (slices of cucumber are a firm favourite) to mitigate pest flies, a high-quality weekly protein source (fish flakes, shrimp pellets, or nutritional yeast), and a continuous supply of calcium (crushed cuttlebone, sepia, or eggshells).
Important Safety Note: Porcellio sp. 'Sevilla' are highly active, protein-hungry isopods. We recommend NOT keeping them or any other protein-focused species with millipedes, as they can sometimes nibble on them while they are vulnerable during delicate moulting cycles.
