These stick insects are some of the most beautiful and sought after invertebrates.
They feed on bramble, oak and privet however in my experience their favourite is oak.
With the normal morph adopting a lovely brown or yellow colour they blend into their environment seamlessly. However, with the correct environment and genes some nymphs carry an extraordinary trait of taking on the appearance of lichen. As an adult the lichen stick insects turn a striking lime green colour. One of the most notable features of the Macleay's stick insects is their veracious spikes which travel across their whole body.
Your eggs should hatch in around 4 to 6 months in the correct conditions. Place them on damp kitchen roll or vermiculite in a plastic tub with air holes.
Watch out for mould!
